Treatment for Hearing a Pulse in Your Ear

Treatment for a pulse in your ear will be linked to the
underlying condition, if you have one, such as
atherosclerosis, anemia,
high blood pressure , obesity or
hearing loss.

If there is no underlying medical condition then you will be
treated for tinnitus with a number of different methods,
including Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT), cognitive
behavioral therapy, sound therapy or relaxation therapy.

Treating tinnitus with cognitive behavior therapy could be
suitable for widespread use, according to a 2012 study from
Maastricht University, Netherlands. Patients in the study took
part in specialized cognitive behavior therapy with sound-
focused tinnitus retraining therapy or stuck to their usual
care. Those that took part in the therapy experienced a
decrease in the severity of their
tinnitus.

Treating tinnitus to remove the sound of a pulse in the ear
could be effected using portable music players and various
sounds from the natural world, according to a 2011 study
from Kagawa University, Kagawa, Japan. According to the
study, the sound of a softly flowing stream was the most
effective sound in the Tinnitus Retraining Therapy treatment.

Try Getting Some Sleep to Ease the Sound of a Pulse in your
Ear

Symptoms  of tinnitus, such as hearing your pulse in your
ear, are shown to get worse with insomnia – a condition that
also adds to the emotional distress of tinnitus. This was
demonstrated by a 2012 study at the Henry Ford Hospital in
Detroit. Sleep disturbances and insomnia may make you less
tolerant of noises in your ear, according to the researchers.
However, it may be more difficult to sleep if you suffer from
hearing a pulse in your ear. According to a 2009 survey by
the British Tinnitus Association nearly 65 percent of tinnitus
sufferers reported that tinnitus bothered them at night.  The
lack of external noise can make the pulse sound in your ear
all the more prominent, and disturbing. (Read more about
causes for interrupted sleep.)

If you hear a pulse in your ear try not to worry as the sound
may go away on its own. But to be sure that the noise is not
a symptom of another condition such as high blood pressure
or anemia, check with your doctor.
