11. Avoid artificial sweeteners to relieve congestion. From
my personal experience, over use of aspartame caused a
thick, cloudy pressure in my sinuses which my doctor
diagnosed as sinusitis. It went away after I stopped using
sweeteners for about 3 days. Drink a lot of water to flush
out any artificial sweeteners that are still in your system.
(Read more about the
health dangers of artificial
sweeteners.)

12.
Vicks Vapor Rub. Use a tiny dab on the sinus spots on
your face (these are located on either side of your nose
and between your eye brows).  Some people also find that
rubbing Vicks vapor rub on the soles of their feet at night
also opens up the sinuses. No one knows why. When I was
little, my Mom used to place a drop under my nostrils which
also helped.

13.
Affrin. Affrin is recommended by many sinusitis
sufferers for relieving the pressure.

14.
Saline Rinse. Use saline solution to blow your nose. It
reduces sinus congestion pretty fast.

15.
Oil of Oregano. Put 4 or 5 drops in a glass of water and
drink it every day. Relief comes within a month. It doesn't
work for every one but it works for many people. Article

16.
Change Your Filters and Clean Your Vents. During the
winter, many people are affected by indoor allergens.
Change the filters on the heater in your house. Clean the
vents.

17.
Use Thyme to Relieve Congestion. This year, nothing
worked. Not loratadine (Claritin) not zyrtex. But what did
work was the good old fashioned herb
thyme. I filled a
large bowl with hot water and sprinkled thyme in it. I
placed the bowl on the floor near my bed , so the vapors
would rise to my nose and head. After about 15 minutes of
breathing in the thyme vapors, I could breathe. I slept
through the night for the first time in 3 weeks. So, go to
your spice cabinet and pull out the thyme to relieve night
time congestion. I got this tip on
thyme's effect on nasal
and bronchial passages from here.]
