If you could make just one change in your diet which would
have the greatest impact on your health, many experts
would say that change should be switching red meat for
salmon. The perils of eating red meat are well-chronicled –
increased risk of heart disease, stroke and dementia to name
a few – but why is eating salmon so beneficial to your
health?  Why is salmon the very best fish to eat for your
health?

Almost every year, researchers discover new ways that
salmon improves your overall health. Here is the complete,
and ever-growing, list of the many health benefits from
eating salmon:

1. Salmon is a concentrated form of protein which helps to
build and sustain muscle and, because muscle burns 8 times
more calories than fat, it also helps to trim you down.

2. Salmon is rich in omega-3s, which reduce inflammation in
the body and thereby reduce your chances of having heart
disease and heart attacks.

The American Heart Association recommends that all of us
eat fish such as salmon at least twice per week.
"We
recommend eating fish (particularly fatty fish) at least two
times a week.  Fish is a good source of protein and doesn’t
have the high saturated fat that fatty meat products do.
Fatty fish like mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines,
albacore tuna and salmon are high in two kinds of omega-3
fatty acids, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and
docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)"

3. Salmon also is high in fish oil, which promotes smooth
skin and reduces redness. Article continues below.

4. Salmon's oil makes you feel full longer, because oil moves
through the small intestines so slowly. In effect, it acts like a
stopper in the bathtub and the whole food train slows down.
As a result, you feel full and don't eat as much

5. Salmon has been found to
decrease your risk of
Alzheimer's and to speed up mental processing even in
younger adults.

New research has found that salmon actually helps you to
grow new brain cells. The omega-3 fatty acids in salmon help
to expand the hippocampus area of the brain, which is
responsible for learning new skills. (Read more about

6. The oil in salmon is "unsaturated". Saturated oils, like fish
oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil and canola oil, are liquids at room
temperature. They are sometime referred to as "good oil" or
"good fat" because they it will not clog your arteries. These
unsaturated oils have been linked not just to heart health
and reduced risk of stroke but also to improved ability of
men to sustain penis erections. (Read more about
foods that
help to unclog your arteries.)

7.Decreased risk of arrhythmias, which can lead to sudden
cardiac death

8.Decreased triglyceride levels.

9. Salmon is one of the
foods that helps to lower blood
pressure because it slows down the build up of
atherosclerotic plaque.

10. Salmon, like other cold water fish, fights arthritis.  The
Arthritis Foundation has recognized fish oil as one of the Top
10 food supplements helpful in combating rheumatoid
arthritis and osteoporois.

11. Salmon and other fish high in omega-3 fatty acids helps
to heal your nerves. Conditions such as
shingles and cold
sores (herpes simplex) are healed faster if you eat a diet rich
in omega-3 fatty acids.

12. Shizophrenia Is Interrupted by Salmon. Salmon and othe
foods high in omega-3 fatty acids
interrupts the progression
of early symptoms of schizophrenia into full-blown
schizophrenia.

13. Salmon is rich in iron, which helps to
remedy some forms
of anemia.
