7.
Diabetes Can Cause Late Periods – In a study conducted
by the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes in 2011,
35% of adolescent females with diabetes reported irregular
menstruation. Once again the answer lies with irregular
hormonal balance. (Read more about
diabetes control, and
which foods can keep your blood sugar steady.)

8.
Chemotherapy Can Make Your Period Late– In a study
conducted between 2008 and 2010 by Nanjing Medical
University in China, over 43% of women having undergone
chemotherapy for breast cancer experienced what is known
as chemotherapy-induced amenorrhea (CIA). Chemotherapy’
s attack on the body’s cells results in a hormonal imbalance
that often produces late or irregular periods. (Read more
about the
ideal diet for chemotherapy.)

9.
Anorexia or Drive-for-thinness (DT) – As you now know,
obesity can cause menstrual irregularity. But so can the
opposite condition ----anexoria and excessive thinness . A
study August of 2011 conducted by Penn State University
showed that women with a high-drive for thinness were
more likely than their normally driven counterparts. Reasons
for the different results could include poor diet and
increased stress amongst women with high levels of DT.

ideal weight for women.)

10.
Early or late Menarche Can Cause Late Periods– The
results of a study conducted in December of 2009 by the
Department of Nursing at the National Taipei College of
Nursing in Taiwan indicated that starting your period early
(technically called an early menarche), meaning before the
age of 12 or starting your period late (late menarche),
meaning after the age of 14, resulted in menstrual
dysfunction in a collection of 1300 nursing students.

If you experience consistent irregularity in your
menstruation cycle, the answer may lie with just when you
had your period.

Bonus:
11.
Some Foods Can Throw Off Your Period.

Any foods that change your hormonal balance can
potentially throw off your period. Soy and soy products can
alter your estrogen levels. So, if you're overdoing the soy
and you start to have irregular periods, you may need to cut
back.

12.
Exercising Strenuously Can Throw Off Your Period.

Women who are athletic often experience amenorrhea, our
Registered Nurse panel observes. The exact cause of athletic
amenorrhea has been the subject of debate within the
scientific community.

Studies support this observation. One of the latest studies,
conducted in 2011 by Dr. Sarah Berga and Samuel Pauli of
Emory University School of Medicine.  Exercise causes the
release of "hypothalamic gonadotropin releasing hormone
(GnRH)" and activates your adrenal glands and thyroid , all
of which can disrupt your period.
