Blood in stool is more common than you think. According to the
National Institutes of Health, approximately 50% of all
Americans will suffer from bloody stools before they reach age
50.

There's perhaps no more frightening a sight than to see bloody
stools and no more painful a condition than hemorrhoids, the
most common cause of blood in stool. This is a personal story
of how I got through a severe case of hemorrhoids.  It lists
and explains all the tips that actually worked to stop the pain
and clear up my hemorrhoids.

First things first. There is a wealth of information on this site
about
how to prevent hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoids are caused by
straining when you're constipated. You should eat plenty of
foods with fiber, drink at least 8 glasses of water, stay active
physically and make sure your diet has enough of the "good"
oils such as olive oil and
fish oil to prevent hemorrhoids.

But, even though you follow this advice to the letter, you can
still get hemorrhoids. Once you've detected blood in your
stools, you need to act.

How do you get hemorrhoids? I got them by sitting too long
for too many days. It's the same reason that many professional
truck drivers and taxi drivers get hemorrhoids. Not enough
circulation to the buttocks. The hemorrhoid glands get stopped
up, and the result is the painful swelling that we know as
hemorrhoids or "piles". They're sometimes called
varicose veins
of the anus. The difference is, unfortunately, that they bleed.
Sometimes profusely.

For those of you who have hemorrhoids already, you need to
know what remedies actually work? Are there any cures for
hemorrhoids, what treatments speed up the healing of
hemorrhoids? This article is for you.

Here are the tips, routines and treatments that actually work to
reduce the pain and bleeding of internal or external
hemorrhoids and get you on the road to recovery as quickly as
possible:

1.
Morning Showers. Take a lukewarm shower each morning
that you have hemorrhoids. After you finish your normal
shower to cleanse your body, take a bar of antibacterial soap
and soap up your back. Then, bend over and let the water
wash down your back and indirectly down your buttocks. Do
not let the shower water hit your buttocks directly because it
may be too painful.

2.
Apply a Lidocaine Cream. Listen, I have tried many different
creams. The ones that work have lidocaine and also some form
of anti-inflammatory agent.  Novartis makes a cream called
Procto-Glyvenol which works wonders.

3.
Sit in a Sitz Bath. Just fill a tub with lukewarm water and 4
tablespoons of salt. Let the water cover your hips. This saline
solution just helps to soothe the tissues and drain away the
pus.

If you're lucky enough to have a bidet, it works even better
than a tub. Just keep the spray on medium. Anything more
forceful will cause pain.

4.
Take an anti-inflammatory. Any over-the-counter
anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen will help you to get by the
first few really painful days.

5.
Use an Ice-pack At Night. Put 6 ice cubes in a plastic sipped
bag such as the kind you use to pack a lunch. Then, wrap a
towel around the bag and place it behind you. As you sit or
sleep, the cool bag will soothe the tissues and speed up the
healing. Also, there's something about the alternating of warm
showers and sitz baths with the cold ice packs which speeds up
the reduction of pus and blood.

6.
Massage the Surrounding Area. Not the hemorrhoid itself.
Just massage the surrounding areas, the high area of the hips
and the areas that are not inflamed. It helps to speed up the
healing. The massage should be finger-tip light.

7.
Try Horse Chestnut Gel. Horse chestnuts contain a compound
which helps to seal "leaky" capillaries, which is why it is a
natural remedy for
varicose veins. Horse chestnut gel can also
help to seal hemorrhoids.
