THE BEST MEDICINEf-
LAUGH!

FIRST DOSE
There are always two ways
to look at everything, I
guess. My wife and I were
sitting at a table at my
high school reunion last
October, and I kept staring
at a drunken lady swigging
her drink as she
sat alone at a nearby
table. My wife noticed me
staring and asked me, "Do
you know her?".

"Yes",
I sighed, "She's my old
girlfriend. I understand she
took to drinking right after
we split up those
many years ago, and I
hear she hasn't been sober
since." "My God!" says my
wife, "Who would
think a person could go on
celebrating that long?"

THE BEST MEDICINE-
LAUGH!

SECOND DOSE
Last night, my friend and I
were sitting in the living
room and
I said to her, "I never want
to live in a vegetative
state, dependent on
some machine and fluids
from a bottle. If that ever
happens, just pull the
plug."

She got up, unplugged the
TV, and threw out my wine
Anti-Aging Creams and What Mom Did Not Know

Age just happens. One day you’re young and fairly supple and the next
morning you’re slightly stiff and every year is showing up on your face.
You can pretend it’s not happening. You can even lie about your age,
but reality bites and those wrinkles, eye bags, and dark circles are dead
giveaways.

If you’re like me, you’re out exploring drug store shelves; buying
magazines you never bothered to look at before; and reading
advertisements for the most effective antiaging eye cream in hopes of
getting your real face back.

Unfortunately, and one of the things your mother did not know or
forgot to mention, the skin around your eyes is the most fragile,
thinnest skin on your entire body and needs to be protected. There are
no oil glands or fat cells in this skin, which means it is very vulnerable
to the elements. Oh, and about the elements…90% of the visible signs
of aging are due to exposure to the sun and the environment. Think
protection and prevention when you think of your skin, especially the
skin around your eyes.

All those years of blinking, smiling and squinting takes its toll on this
fragile covering. Your first wrinkles can appear when you’re in your
twenties from those repetitive motions. By the time you’re in your
thirties, gravity is taking hold and elastin and collagen production is
slowing down and there goes more of the resiliency of your youthful
skin. As we get to our forties, this decrease in elasticity starts to imprint
permanent wrinkles.

There is a 65% decline of elastin and collagen between the ages of
twenty and eighty. Not good news. In addition, (yes, there’s more) our
skin also thins 6% every ten years causing the blood vessels to show
under our eyes. This makes the under eye area appear darker than the
rest of our faces. So there it is—age happening and even the prettiest
of us must work to protect our skin. The professionals now encourage
women of all ages to use antiaging creams to prevent the signs of
aging. Thanks for letting me know—now that I’m headed into midlife
and already own some enduring wrinkles around my eyes.

The good news is that technology is working for us and there are
products available that strengthen the blood vessels under the eyes,
provide moisture and elasticity to the skin, as well as help skin produce
new cells and decrease the signs of aging. When shopping for the best
eye wrinkle creams, I have found products that not only decrease
visible lines, but also remove dark circles and help reduce puffiness
around the eyes.

If you want to keep your skin looking youthful longer, then it is
important to start using antiaging eye creams while you are young,
before your face looks your age. If you’re like me, already reaching
midlife with your laugh lines deeply imprinted, take heart and know
that science has answers and protecting your skin is still the first step.
